Wild Dreamer is the second project release and first official EP by Alyssa Harris. Her first mixtape "Thrill Me" (later re-released in 2020 under the new title "Before I Knew What I Didn't Know") was released in 2011 and included a mixture of R&B, Neo-Soul, and Pop songs written and co-produced by Harris.
She and her creative partner, sound engineer & lead producer Josh Dixon (C.BOYÂ Records) carefully curated a dynamic catalog that would eventually propel Alyssa Harris onto the scene as a fierce new independent artist. The project was well-received on the local music scene in Los Angeles where it was performed on popular stages in venues like The Key Club, House of Blues Hollywood, and on countless events in the LA artist scene.
In the latter portion of 2019, coming off of the heels of a successful career in corporate entertainment performing on cruise ships around the world and in casino theaters on the Las Vegas strip, Alyssa Harris has returned to her first love of songwriting with the release of her newest EP. She describes the theme of project as "an ode to fresh starts". The project boasts 6 original tracks; the 6th being an exclusive bonus track; a haunting acoustic piano version of the project's high-energy rock tune "Dreaming of the City". With a mix of indie-pop, soft rock, and a touch of reggae, "Wild Dreamer" shows the multifaceted progression of Harris' songwriting. "[The EP] is really just about opening and closing chapters, starting a new life, and leaving your past behind... in a positive way, though," Harris describes. She notes that one of her favorite tracks "Irish Goodbye" pretty much sums that sentiment right up: "When you leave a bar and don't want to say anything to anyone, you just want to dip out without all the fuss...well, that could be applied to starting fresh in a relationship or any new stage of life, too."
The most intriguing thing about this project is its variety of genre fusions. The subject matter, barely grazing topics of romance or heartbreak, are refreshing and even uplifting, like the single "More Good Times" and island-steeped feel is unique for an indie rock artist and new to Harris' style. "Wild Dreamer" reflects the artist's current reality all while being relatable. The variety of styles brings something to every taste, with a fresh outlook on the indie pop-rock sound.
